The Wee Free Men

Pratchett, Terry. The Wee Free Men. New York: HarperCollins, 2003. Print.

Annotation
Pratchett mixes fantasy, fairy tales and goofball humor in this novel about one girl's education in the odder points of life, death and cheesemaking. This is the first of three books about Tiffany Aching and the Wee Free Men (a fourth is due in late 2010).

Booktalk
The Wee Free Men are tiny blue pixies who like to drink, steal, and fight. They're not afraid of anything, exept a shepherd girl named Tiffany, who also happens to be the granddaughter of a famous witch. When her baby brother is kidnapped, Tiffany is determined to get him safely home. It will be harder than she thinks, though, as a nightmare world has collided with their own. Frightening monsters emerge from strange storms at a moment's notice, creatures called dromes weave dreams to capture unwary travellers, and a mysterious "Quin" with too much sugar waits behind it all.

Armed with nothing but a frying pan, a book on sheep diseases, some homemade whiskey and a talking toad, Tiffany must enlist the help of the Wee Free Men .
